This is the first topic of the macro on government portals and digital platforms. It is a participation platform and not a service portal, which sets it apart from UMANG and DigiLocker that follow. It puts the idea of Jan Bhagidari on a digital footing. Previous topic: Rashtriya Gokul Mission (Indigenous Cattle Breed Development). Next topic: UMANG App (Unified Mobile Application for New-Age Governance).

What Else Should You Remember?

  • Full form and alias: MyGov is written as MyGov.in and is also known as the Government of India citizen engagement platform
  • Sibling topic: the platform appears as part of the e-governance plan, as in e-Kranti and MyGov Platform. This page takes the portal as a stand-alone participation tool
  • Digital India: launched on 1 July 2015, Digital India is the umbrella programme with pillars such as broadband highways, e-Kranti and public access. MyGov was started a year earlier
  • Latest status: the platform is active, with about 6.32 crore registered users reported to Parliament in July 2026. Counts change with campaigns
  • Link with Jan Bhagidari: the platform is a main example of the ideas in Jan Bhagidari and Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas Sabka Vishwas
  • Constitutional link: it supports the right to free expression in Article 19(1)(a) and the aim of accountable government, though it is not a constitutional body
  • Registration: a user can register with a mobile number or email and verify through a one-time password
  • Limits: participation is skewed towards urban, English-speaking and connected citizens, and a comment does not bind the Government
  • Criticism: some observers say that contests and campaigns dominate over real consultation, and that feedback from the public is not always published or acted upon
  • Data and privacy: as with other portals, user data is covered by the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, which sets duties on entities that process personal data

Why Does It Matter for the Exam?

  1. Launch and ministry: 26 July 2014 and MeitY
  2. Nature: a participation platform and not a service delivery app
  3. Features: Discuss, Do, Poll, Talk
  4. Covid use: MyGov Corona Helpdesk on WhatsApp
  5. Common errors: mixing it with UMANG, which delivers services, or with the PM India website

As an analytical point, MyGov widens the channel between the state and citizens at a low cost. It improves governance only if consultations are open for enough time, responses are published and the feedback changes decisions.
