  • Animal sports: harvest sports like those in Jallikattu and Kambala (Animal Sports/Festivals) belong to the same culture
  • Risks: crowds, waste, commercial pressure and loss of ritual meaning are the main risks of festival tourism

Why Does It Matter for the Exam?

  1. Festival to state: Bathukamma Telangana, Hornbill Nagaland, Wangala Meghalaya
  2. Season: Chapchar Kut in March; Hornbill in December
  3. Community: Wangala with Garos, Kheer Bhawani with Kashmiri Pandits
  4. Statement questions: meaning, location, and who celebrates
  5. Common errors: placing Sangai in Nagaland, or Hornbill in Manipur

As an analytical point, festivals preserve oral traditions, crafts and community bonds. Tourism promotion helps incomes, but unplanned crowds and commercial staging can erode their meaning, so community control matters.
