Why Does It Matter for the Exam?
- Founding years: 1953 for SNA, 1954 for Sahitya and Lalit Kala, 1959 for NSD, 1984 for INTACH, 1987 for IGNCA
- Functions: which body gives which award
- First: the SNA is the first national academy, and Cunningham is the first Director General of the ASI
- Ministry: the ICCR is under the Ministry of External Affairs
- Common errors: calling INTACH a government body, or mixing up the roles of the three akademis
As an analytical point, India uses autonomous akademis to keep art policy at some distance from the Government, but they depend on public funds. Better governance, transparent selection for awards and more regional reach are the main needs.
